University of Surrey Centre for Vision, Speech and Signal Processing, directed by Prof. Josef Kittler, forms part of the Department of Electronic Engineering which has the highest 5*A research rating. CVSSP is one of the largest machine vision groups in the UK with over seventy researchers and an established international reputation in Multi-media Signal Processing; Visual Media; Medical Imaging; Remote Sensing; and Robot Vision.
The Visual Media Research Group, led by Prof. Adrian Hilton, includes research in video processing, archive restoration, human computer interaction and 3D vision. The group comprises five academic staff, ten research assistants and twenty Ph.D. students supported by EPSRC, EU and industry. This research has achieved international recognition through extensive publication in international journals, receiving four outstanding paper awards in the past five years. Knowledge transfer has led to successful commercial exploitation in video motion compensation, object reconstruction and modelling of people, receiving five industry awards.
The group has state-of-the-art studio facilities for digital film multiple camera capture analysis and post-processing. In i3DPost, it leads the work on 3D data capture and content structuring.
The first HD video test data has been produced (D3.1). See examples below.
